I tore my labrum tendon which basically holds the joint of the shoulder in place and where it's torn, my shoulder hurts a ton and the only way to fix it, is to have surgery. I was actually official a couple of weeks ago when I passed my final test but it feels even more official because I just got my patch and certificate in the email today. It is so awesome! I can't even express how much of a relief it is to be done! Now I just need to get done with school so I can start working as a paramedic cus Home Depot just isn't cutting it for me. It's kinda bad that I hope someone will get hurt while I'm working isn't it? LOL I'm serious, I really do. Oh well, I'll just keep looking for a paramedic job while I'm finishing school and when I'm done, I can't wait to start working as a paramedic. Anyways, I better get to bed now. I'm sorry I haven't blogged for awhile. I have been busy studying for my written paramedic exam which I was really worried about but, I guess the studying payed off, that and the prayers from everyone. I appreciate all of your support, it really meant a lot to me. Now, all I have left to do is pass my practical exam now, which will be Saturday, the 13th. So, hopefully I will pass that one now. Wish me luck. I also got a job at The Home Depot working as a cashier. I don't know how long I'll be able to work there though 'cus I'm going to be taking 15 credits and they are all hard classes so I guess we'll see how long I last there with my schedule. I'm a little nervouse to start school again but I really want to get done with my bachelors in EMS Administration. Anyways, I just wanted everyone to know what I was up to. I haven't been too motivated to do much, in fact I have kind of enjoyed not doing much. I should have looked for a job but, like I said, I just haven't been motivated. But, I did go fourwheeling on Saturday and got some sun and worked my muscles, so I'm sore now. Oh well. It was fun but it ended up being a fifty mile drive and every time we stopped, mosquito's would swarm and feast upon our flesh. Yeah, not fun. But, we eventually got home and boy I was beat. Then of course, I always do something irrational when I'm tired, but it's all good. It's a long story. I'll explain later, maybe. Anyways, I took some more pictures of some wild flowers that were in various locations along the trail. I would have taken more but I didn't want to get eaten alive by mosquitos. Here they are.

I forgot to put some other pictures on here from Georgia. We left Atlanta on Tuesday and arrived home Thursday night. We stayed in St. Louis, MO Tuesday night at AJ's aunts condo. It was actually really fun to stay there. They let us stay for free and even took us out for dinner at an upscale pizza parlor. It was fun visiting with them and also interesting that AJ's uncle is president of brewing for budweiser and has a master's in brewing. I didn't even know anyone offered a masters in brewing. Anyways, we also had a nice little chat with AJ's aunt about the whole mess in Texas with the polygamist group and made sure that she understood that we aren't affiliated with them at all, don't worry, we did it in a nice way. But, then we woke up and left for the road again. We ended up in Independence, MO for lunch and was very happy that a lynch mob didn't chase out of town because we were starving. Just kidding. Then from there we drove all the way to Cheyenne, WY and got a hotel which actually proved difficult because apparently there was a rodeo and baseball team in town and all the hotels were full. After staying the night in a La Quinta we got up and drove the rest of the way home. We did get a little side tracked though because we wanted to take some pictures of Palisades lake to send back to our Atlanta friends and then of course, we had to stop for square ice cream. Yum. Then we made it home around seven o'clock Thursday night and I was exhausted. I still got up the next morning and went fourwheeling with the fam even though I wanted to fall asleep while driving up the hill. LOL Then we went to the fireworks at 7N ranch because we didn't want to fight the crowds in Idaho Falls. Oh, and I was also able to hook up my adopted sister Stephanie with AJ. Funny thing but they hit it off, and it helped that they had been talking and texting for a month and a half before they met, which was when we got home from Atlanta. I think I made a good match. Then we went to a family reunion thing and I got some cute pics of Asher and Hallie. Such cuties. Check it out.

Then I decided to experiment a little with my new camera and got some good shots of flowers. I have really been into taking flower pictures lately. Check these out. And for now, I'm going to let you go. Yeah, I actually went to the ocean! My first time at the ocean was awesome. We went to Destin, Florida which is located in the gulf of Mexico. It was awesome! The water was an emerald green color and the sands, wow, the sand was soft and smooth. We first fished for bait using squid which was fun because we caught little pinfish which are really small but like to fight. Check out the pic of me and my fish! LOL Just kidding, I did catch bigger fish than that but it was the first fish I caught so I had to have a picture. Then we went out for bigger fish and we immediately caught a King Macrel which was about thirty inches long or so. Then we lost our anchor so we didn't really catch much after that. So, we then went back to the beach and relaxed and snorkled in the little bay area. I love snorkeling! Holy cow! It was so much fun. But, then we went fishing for some more small fish and then out to catch a shark but ended up catching another King Macrel, which was even bigger than the first one. Overall it was a great day except I am way tired because we left Saturday night and drove the whole night until five in the morning sunday and immediately went out fishing and was on the water the whole day until five o'clockish and then we still had to drive home, which we ended up getting back about midnight. No sleep though so I am way tired. Anyways, enjoy the pics I have here, I of course of have a ton more but these were the only ones I had time for. Oh, the red fish is a Mahogany Snapper, Lenny caught that one.

Crazy Atlanta!

Atlanta is crazy! I love it here though. Most of the people are nice but there are some that well, let's just say that I hope I don't ever run into them on a dark street corner. There are a lot of homeless people though. It's sad. And a lot of people are affected by drugs and alcohol, it's heart breaking. I picked up a patient the other day that had been alcoholic rehab for fifteen months and the day after he got out he had one drink and couldn't stop. He drank for a week straight with maybe a sandwich and that's it. He was shaky and he really smelled bad. We also picked up an eighteen year old female who was smashed from drinking whiskey. She was throwing up and also reeked of the sickening stench of alcohol. She was also only half dressed. Okay, well, you know how teenagers dress these days. Sad. Oh, and another patient, well, let's just say he was gay and before he had "relations" he took some crystal meth which led him to an anxiety attack along with muscle spasms. Yeah, that was a big surprise for me! Geez, what else could go on in Atlanta?????

Okay, well this happened on a very rainy day. We're not sure what happened but there was a truck pulling a car behind it when well, as you can see here it ran off the road and into the canal. After an hour and a half of standing in the rain and getting soaked, the tow trucks finally pulled the vehicles out and low and behold, no patien to be found. Yeah, no one was in the truck. We still don't know what happened to the patient. Wierd but it's still a cool picture. Well, I'm off to bed. I have to get up early for my shift. Take care everyone!

Atlanta, Georgia

Well, I'm in Atlanta now! I LOVE IT! There is so much I have to learn but I have learned more in two days working than during my whole time in school. It's amazing though. The people down here are crazy. They call the ambulance for some of the stupidest things and they get mad at you if you try to help them. But, I've also had some very legitimate calls too and my preceptor tells me that I'm doing well. I just hope that she is telling the truth and not making me feel better about myself. I've got all eight of my paramedic books close, plus two other fiction books that I read recently but, I'd have to say the closest book I have is the one on my laptop. Okay, it's not actually a book yet but I hope it will be someday. I'm still in the process of finishing it but here is three sentances from page 123 of Swept Away by Kristine Radford.

Sharps looked at him with cold eyes, “Are you telling me the truth?”

“Yes, it’s the truth. Please, let her go.” Ian begged him.

Sharps didn’t immediately let Rochelle go, instead he pulled her hair up, making her stand next to him and then told him, “You will lead us into the canyon and find us a vehicle and drive us off the mountain or your girlfriend here will get it.”

I know it doesn't sound that good and it has a lot of work to be done on it, but well, it's fun anyways. It was pretty cool and it feels really great to be done with the school portion. Now all I have left to do is my internship and then the national test after my internship. Whew! I'm excited. But, I think I am going to Atlanta, Georgia for my internship. It isn't set in stone yet so who knows, it could change. But, can you imagine, a little country girl like me in Atlanta?! I don't know, kinda scary. But, I just wanted to keep everyone updated. Oh, and check out the pics from my pinning! So, now I have to go somewhere else and I'm not exactly sure where that's going to be. My options are: Great Falls, Montana and Galveston, Texas. Oh well. But, earlier tonight I went to FHE for a Valentine's Dinner with the other branches from the surrounding area. I know, amazing that I went. The food was great and so was the company. I sat by my sister of course and then a few other friends from my branch but, the real treat was having Greg Reed sit by us. I haven't seen him since summer so it was good to see him and chat with him for awhile. So, overall, that was the good part of the night. But, I don't want to sound down or anything or have my comments reflect on any of my friends. This is just me but, I saw other friends and they of course told me all about everyone that I went to school with and even those that are younger than I am that they are all having babies. Don't get me wrong, I am so excited for every single one of my friends that they have the wonderful opportunity to have a family and be so happy. But, I guess in a way I feel bad that well, I'm still single. I feel like I am getting way old. I know that many of you will beg to differ but, well, maybe its not the old part. I guess I'm just ready to move on. I'm tired of the single life. I know, I've had fun and can still have fun and well, when I get to Vegas I intend to do just that. But, there is still that one part in my life that I feel is missing and I know it's the most important aspect in someone's life and I'm missing out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not jealous of any of you my friends, just wish that I was able to have the same opportunity. Maybe someday though, just hopefully not before I grow too old to have children, because ultimately, that would be a joy that I can't even comprehend fully now. I know I have had many down moments, or well, down years anyways, but I guess in a way, the hope of raising a family is what has held me here to this earth. Otherwise, I think I would be gone already. But, to say the least, I know I cannot conquer this single lifestyle thing without dealing with other things. And I intend to do just that, no matter how painful it will be during the process and I know I'm going to need a lot of support and help. I hope I can make it. Wish me luck. I'm going to bed now, I've been running off of three hours of sleep since sunday so I better get to bed. Take care bloggers and my very awesome friends!

Ready for a vacation!

Yes, I am ready for a vacation already. I went skiing last night with some of my friends from the paramedic program and wow, am I sore today. It was totally worth it though. I was surprised at how well I did since I hadn't been skiing for like twelve years. I didn't fall at all and I started to feel comfortable parallel skiing, or whatever you call it. It was fun but kinda cold when we rode the ski lift up to the top because the wind was blowing and well, we weren't moving. But, it got warmer once we headed down the mountain and worked our muscles. Now, my muscles just want to relax. Even my arms feel like lead. Well, the lead arms could be because one of the girls that came with my friends hurt her knee and needed carried to the van so I helped carry her and well, my arms are tired now. I was hoping that skiing would pull me out of this black hole I have been in since school started but I don't think it worked. I'm still down and just, nevermind. I'm good. I've got to go though because it looks like I've got to help babysit Lyncie's puppy. Take care bloggers and I hope you are all doing well.

Another week gone!

Well, hello everyone. It wasn't anything special, just a review of what we would be doing for the semester. I'm getting really excited to be done so that I can go on my internship. I talked to my teacher today and it sounds like I will more than likely be going to Las Vegas. I'm excited but nervous for a new adventure. But, I also start my Chemistry class tomorrow and I'm not excited for that but, I do have a firefighting class tomorrow night so hopefully that will be fun. We'll see though. I can't believe that another year has gone by! And, I also can't believe that I'm in my last semester of college, or well really the paramedic program. I'm so excited to be done though and actually get into the workforce and actually give my part to society. But, I hope to start this year off with losing a few pounds which isn't going very well cus I'm eating ice cream as I'm typing. LOL Oh well, I'll start tomorrow. But, just so everyone knows, I actually broke up with Brent. He came home and well, I was excited but the more I hung around him the more I started to feel uncomfortable. So, I prayed and got confirmation that well, it wasn't right so I broke up with him right after Christmas. He didn't really put up a fight so maybe he felt the same way. Oh well, I'm sure there is someone out there for me even though I still feel like I may be single the rest of my life. Well, only time will tell. But, I gotta go because Kelli and I are watching Hairspray again for like the hundredth time so I better go so I can watch it again. Not only because of the wonderful presents but it's the whole idea of giving to others and remembering Christ. I have never felt closer to my Savior. After all I have gone through this last year and all the trials and even the happy moments, I can honestly say that it has allowed me to grow closer to my Savior and feel the Spirit even more. I still have my weak moments, many of them but I love that I can return to church each week and partake of the Sacrament and remember my Savior. So even though this is Christmas and presents are usually the best and funnest gifts, for me my greatest gift was having the opportunity to grow closer to Christ. I am giong to continue to grow even closer if I can this new year and go to the temple. I can't wait for that. But, I want to let all of you to know that I love all of you and appreciate your friendship and sticking with me through all the tough times. I will never be able to repay you for all you have done. So, Merry Christmas and well, seeya in the new year.

I got my grades back!

So, yes, I did get my grades back and I did pretty well. WHEW HOO! Okay, I'm done jumping for joy. But, it really does feel good to be done for the semester and now I can get my Christmas shopping done and prepare for Brent to come back. Yes, he will be back on the twenty-second but he was offered a job in Minnesota and well, he took it so he will move back out there on January fourth and work. So, there's some news for you huh. Yeah, news for me too. But, to be honest, I'm really not sure how I feel about him still. There are so many doubts and thoughts running through my mind that I'm just so confused now. I think with him being gone its hard to guage how I feel. Does anyone have any advice? I'm just so confused. Sorry its taken me so long to write, I have been pretty busy with school. See, this week is my last week for class! Whew! I'm excited, now I can just do ER shifts and run on the ambulance without having to worry about getting my homework done. Oh, and guess what, I got to do CPR on a lady tonight at the hospital who went into cardiac arrest. It was cool. Except, I know that sounds bad that she's dying and I'm excited but please don't take it wrong, I completely respect that yeah, she is dying. I was only excited because I'm gaining experience and for me, I need that the most. But, just so you know, after twenty minutes of cpr, ventilations, and antiarrhythmic meds, she got a pulse back. However, I'm not sure how her outcome will be after being down that long. So, it will be interesting to see what happens. Anyways, I'll be checking back up on everyone's blogs as soon as I'm done tomorrow because now I won't have to worry about homework! WHEW! YAY! SWEET! RIGHT ON! Okay, I'm done jumping with joy. Well, after class tonight and FHE my sister called and needed me to help put some air into her tire that was running a little low. So, I changed out of my paramedic uniform and then she picked me up. So, on our way I notice that there's a car accident in front of Taco Time so I tell my sister to get in the other lane thinking it was just another 'car accident'. As we got closer I realized that it wasn't just another 'car accident'. I saw someone on the ground covered with what looked like a coat. The ambulance wasn't on scene so I jumped out of the car and immediately checked to see if the young woman was breathing. Yes, it was a young college female. She was on her side and I knew I didn't want to move her for fear of hurting her worse in case she had a neck or spine injury. So, I leaned over her and listened for air, which was present and then I checked her pulse. She was alive and breathing but unconcious. To be honest, I was ready to do CPR if I needed to but luckily, she was breathing. So, as soon as I determined she was alive the ambulance pulled up and wow, I knew everyone on the ambulance so, I pretty much got to help with everything. She was actually bleeding from a head wound which, luckily I didn't kneel in with my good jeans. But, we backboarded her and cut the rest of her clothes off and found that she had a broken tibula fibula, so we vacummed splint that and then got her on the ambulance. She was unconcious but responded to painful stimuli because when I tried to start the IV she pulled away. I tried three times and still missed because she kept pulling away, and I even had someone else holding her arm. Luckily, while I distracted her on her left arm the lead medic was able to get an IV on her right arm because he knew that I wasn't going to get with her pulling away like she did. I think I just need to get more muscles to hold em down for the IV. But, anyways, we get her to the hospital and the lead medic was able to call Air Idaho to have them chopper to Rexburg to take her to EIRMC. Head CT ended up showing that she had a basal skull fracture and a subdural hematoma. So, before Air Idaho took her they decided to intubate her because she was becoming less and less responsive and had snoring respirations so, I got to watch them intubate her, even though, really I wanted to do it but knew I couldn't because the Doctor was doing it. Sad. Then they choppered her out and that was last I know of her. I hope she is okay. I think she will be though because of the help she got. But, anyways, I just wanted to tell everyone my cool story. Oh, and I got to bag her too, my first ever. It was very exciting. But, let this be a lesson for everyone, even though the pedestrian had the right away and was in a clearly marked cross walk, she still got hit. Please, please, and I can't express this enough, take care when you cross any street, day or night. Try to wear bright or white clothing when it's dark. Most drivers try to be careful but sometimes you just don't see them. And also, pay attention at the wheel. It's easy to get distracted but try to be vigilant in attention, because you could save someone's life. Take extra care friends! Aloha.

It hurts to think sometimes . . .

Well, thanksgiving is over and I'm still in a turkey coma. That's okay though because it was totally worth it. So, as you can probably tell thanksgiving was good for me. I ate and then ate a little more and then decided I better stop before I grew another butt. Just kidding. But, after I finally awoke from my turkey coma, which by the way took until Friday to get over, I decided I better get some more tests done. So, I did about five tests today and wow, it kind of hurt to have to think again. It was good for me though and actually, it boosted my confidence in my skills because I did pretty good on them.
So, Brent is still in Minnesota but he'll be back hopefully by December twenty-second. I really hope he is because I told his brother and sister-in-law that I'd go to their Christmas party on the twenty-second but I really don't want to go alone so, I hope he is back by then. But, we talk everyday and keep each other posted on what's going on in our lives. It's just tough though because talking on the phone is like being on different planets. I just can't wait until he gets back. Okay, I better stop typing or I might admit more.
But, I think I am going to say goodbye for now so I can see if I can get one more test done before bed. So, goodluck everyone and I hope you all had a great thanksgiving. I haven't really done much of anything except for take tests and help clean the house so its been nice to relax and enjoy some time off from school. Although, I'm trying not to think about it, I know that when I get back I have a lot of stuff to do for school. Oh well, it will be nice to be done with this semester because let me tell ya, I've been pretty darn busy and if I'm not busy, I'm doing homework and if I'm not doing homework, I'm sleeping. Oh, and to top it all off, I work different shifts at the fire station and then go to the hospital for six hours once a week. I know that it doesn't seem like much but really, after awhile, it starts to wear on ya. Okay, I'm done complaining. But, I guess to make it even I will take this moment to write how thankful I am to be in the paramedic program. I have learned so much from being in the program and I don't regret one millisecond of participating in the program. Okay, wait, that's a lie, there have been times that I have regreted it. Like when my teacher looks at me like I'm stupid because I couldn't remember the dose for a drug or when I shock asystole or, . . . okay, well you get the idea. But, without my teachers being hard on me I don't think I would have tried harder to do better. I'm glad that I stuck through the hard times and well, I know I still have a long time to go well, actually a lifetime of learning.
But, I will also take this moment to let my family know how much I love them and that I am so thankful to have been blessed with such wonderful people. Heavenly Father must really love me to bless me with such an awesome family. I also want to let my friends know that I feel so blessed to have them in my life. I know that I have been busy but please don't think that I don't love you all. I appreciate and think about every one of you everyday and pray that all is well for all of you.
Well, I want to keep going on about how thankful I am but I know that it would end being a really long list. One more thought though that just crossed my mind. Thanksgiving isn't the only time we can let people know how thankful we are to have them in our lives. I am sorry that I haven't let you all know more how much I appreciate you. Please know that I feel very blessed to know each and every one of you. So, with that thought, let's see if we can't just make everyday Thanksgiving, well just without the food, I'm already carrying enough carbs as it is. Good luck fellow bloggers and Happy Thanksgiving! Au revoir!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://paramedickris.blogspot.com/2007/11/yum-thanksgiving.html' title='YUM! Whew!

Well, like it says, I finally have five down but like fifteen more to go. I'm tired now though. The last test took me two hours to do for only thirty-six questions. I know, you're probably wondering if there's something wrong with me. Well, maybe there is but I know that the tests are a lot harder than you think. The last one I took was on the special care for pediatrics. There is so much to remember so it's lucky that I can use my book on the tests because without, I think I would be clueless and wouldn't learn a thing. I tell you though, there is so much that can happen for a child. You know, children can compensate and compensate and then all of a sudden just crash. They compensate so well that you may never even know something is wrong until they crash. My teacher always tells a story of a child who got hit by a car and when the ambulance got there to check on him, he was fine. They let him walk into the ambulance and sat for a few minutes talking and playing with him with a teddy bear and the child seemed perfectly normal. Well, needless to say they decided to get the kid checked out anyways and started on their way to the hospital which was literally only two minutes away. On the way there, the child coded of internal injuries. He had coded out before even reaching the hospital and despite loyal efforts, the child never came out of it and died at the hospital. Now, don't let this story scare any of you mothers out there, just know that children are very resilient, hmm, I'm not sure about that spelling. But know that children compensate very well but also, don't take this story to mean that with every little bump or bruise you need to get your child checked out. Just stop and think of the mechanism of injury and investigate how bad it really would have hurt the child. If in doubt, by all means, get the child checked out. Better safe than sorry. Well, okay, now that I've scared all you young mothers with my story and ramblings, I'm going to go to bed so I can get up and take another test. I apologize if this story did scare anyone, it wasn't meant for that. I was just rambling on about the things I study and learn and well, who knows, maybe it is something you need to know. Goodnight.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://paramedickris.blogspot.com/2007/11/five-tests-down-fifteen-more-to-go-whew.html' title='Five tests down, fifteen more to go. However, my homework consists of taking online tests and those can kind of be mentally taxing. Especially when they are about care of the new born or the premature new born. One of them was even about geriatrics. Funny how that works huh. I go from old people to new borns. Aw, it wasn't that bad. I think the hardest so far has been the new born tests. There is so much to remember for babies but I know it is totally worth it in the long run to be able to know how to help a new born baby. Also, something intersting happened today to my mom. She got a chemical burn from one the cleaning agents her school was using to try and kill MRSA from the bathrooms. Yeah, that's right, a chemical burn, no less, it was a second degree burn, like blisters. Ouch. NOT COOL! So, I decided to look up the cleaning agent and find out some more information and clear as pure water, it had a warning that it can cause skin irritation and even burns if not washed off with soap and water immediately. Didn't the school realize that it would cause injury? I'm not an expert but I do know that before using a cleaning agent that it's important to read the directions and warnings on the bottle. Hmm, I find it funny that common sense is more and more becoming extinct. But, that is only my opinion of course but what do I know? Okay, I'm done complaining for my mom. I just feel bad that she had this experience. Oh, but can you imagine that if this happened to some of the 7th grade girls? Yeah, what an uproar! I hope no one else received a burn from the chemical. Poor kids. Well, I think I better hit the sack. I'm pretty tired after all the tests I've taken tonight, okay well it was only two tests but man, they took me about three hours to do all together. So, good luck fellow bloggers and I hope that you have sweet dreams.

Sunday is for resting right?

Well, I know that I said I was going to get my homework done but unfortunately I haven't even started. I think I am putting it off because I know I have all week to do it but I also know that if I put it off I will end up doing it last minute and be scrambling to get it done. So, now I feel guilty for not getting it done but then there's the side that wants to rationalize like, isn't Sunday meant to be a day of rest? So, I rationalized today so I didn't do my homework. Isn't it funny how I do that? I'm sure I'm not the only one that does it though. Come on, you know who you are. Just admit that you rationalize too sometimes. Okay, so maybe rationalize isn't the right word. Lets just call it procrastination then. Same thing right? Hmm, I think so but I'm not sure I'm an expert when it comes to procrastination so maybe I'll have to think about this tomorrow.

My Homework Still Awaits

It's true, my homework is still waiting for me but alas, I can't find the strength to get started. I know I should be doing my homework or really, at this time I should be in bed but I just can't do anything except for mess with this blog. My friend Heidi warned me that I would be a blogging monster and even though I haven't quite reached the stage where blog starts to ooze from my ears and I grow little wireless antennas from my forehead, I've found that yeah, I do enjoy plotting and organizing my blog. So, all those who are thinking of starting a blog, let this be a warning to you. Even I, who is usually very dedicated to getting my homework done, has found that I would much rather organize my blog than study and do homework that could very well contribute to saving someones life. Hmm, that doesn't sound good. Okay, that's it, I am going to put my darn computer up until I get my homework done, or well at least until tomorrow. Good luck fellow bloggers.

AH!
